ohh and by the way thought I’d point out that jacket in the pic above the red one is what us mfcers (me included) customised for him (it’s also in the we are golden video) we are all so happy he wears it so often

fantastic review! I feel unlike a lot of people out there you truly get Mika!

I also don’t get lady jane but his voice sounds very lush on it anyhow

I have read quite a few of them.
You really did listen to TBWKTM “constantly.”
You really got inot the multi layers that are Mika when he is song writing.

naectegale – goosebumps. thank you for posting that link – I had only seen two songs from Jools Holland. OMG. I’d say yes – that is a pure and stunning vocal. Wow. There aren’t enough wow’s.

Marilyn – thanks for the compliment on the review. I love Mika so much that it was no trouble listening to the new album constantly since the day it debuted!

I agree with you too regarding the comparisons to Freddie and others. I agree that although his influences can be heard that he is breaking away into a truly unique and individual artist which is why I cannot get enough of him.

He is still so young though that I am sure people are a little leery to give him snaps for his own genius just yet – but they will soon.

I’m in it for the long-haul too. He fascinates and compels me and I like that he puts art into everything he does.

I do remember Freddie.

But this live and untouched performance of “Pick Up Off the Floor” matches anything I have ever heard from any singer for combining beauty and virtuosity

That is a brilliant review! You gave it a lot of thought and, unlike so many people who have reviewed Mika’s work, you really get it! I love how you understnnd that Mika is not the happy-clappy pop singer people seem to think he is. Yes, his tunes are often catchy, but the lyrics are always something else, deeper, thought provoking, open to interpretation.
But to be honest I hope that soon, this comparison with Freddie Mercury and others, will stop. Mika is re-inventing pop, he remains one-step-ahead of other artists, and makes other artists raise their game! He is also delving into other music genres, and all on the same album. I think he is a genius who deserves to be respected as MIKA, not the next Freddie or the next anyone else. Mika is unique and he is brilliant!
