Missing in Action: me

I’ve had to step up work considerably so I’ve been a bit overwhelmed and haven’t updated here in a long, long time. That doesn’t mean I haven’t been keeping my eye out for kawaii things, I always am!

My closet still calls to me but I haven’t even thought about cleaning it out more in months. I haven’t been “adding to” (my Mom always says “Don’t add to; take away.” but I just cannot face all the stuff sitting in boxes in the closet and actually organizing it.

I gave up organizing my Re-ment (definitely a case where I “added to”) and still have 7 boxes of tiny little baggies of Re-ment that need to be put into the photo boxes I purchased at Amazon expressly for this purpose. I was so motivated then! Not so motivated now. That’s what being overwhelmed does to you.

Once I get a teeny, tiny break maybe I will indulge myself with some kawaii-ness. Meanwhile I hope your Valentine’s Day was plesant and super kawaii!

Kawaii Things I got for Christmas

Ahhh the madness of the season is nearly over so it seemed like a good time for me to re-cap some of the kawaii things I got for Christmas.

This was a stocking stuffer for me, a great set of STILA mini lip glazes. These are so sweet and portable and have yummy flavors too. My faves are the pearly and sparkly colors.

This great beauty kit is from POPBeauty and is much more vibrant than it looks in this photo. This is a treasure trove of festive colors ready made for parties and the winter months. You get five eye shadow/liners, two shades of bronzer, two shades of face powder, a multi-hued shimmer palette and eight lip colors, all in a velvet covered box.  It is called Cabaret Bouquet and was on sale at ULTA.

Another great make-up kit this one is from Pixi Beauty. I mean it has a little twee fairy on the box! All the colors are shimmery and sweet. You can get this right in Target and it was on sale to boot. You can also get it online at pixibeauty.com.

My sister-in-law was kind enough to get me this adorable Bare Minerals Sweet Obsession mineral powder eye kit. The smaller size jars come in a little foil candy cups. Arrragghhh – cute overload! So yummy I want to eat them!

Since I get cold tootsies in the winter (yes, even in Florida, what can I say, I am a big baby!) I looked for a pair of faux fur lined boots online and came up with these which were sent overnight from endless.com and arrived on my doorstep on the 24th. I’ve barely taken them off since. Except to put on these:

These are called Chastity Sweater Slippers and were $18 at Target. They are completely faux fur lined and delicious on cold toesies.

Hope your Christmas was loaded with kawaii goodies and joyful happiness. Remember to hit all the After Christmas sales too!

I’ve been away from the kawaii a bit so I have lots to catch up on. You’ll be seeing me more regular-like from now on.

Happy Kawaii New Year!

Taking a posting break

Just letting you kawaii folks know that I will be taking a little posting break through the end of November. I’ve been busy with work, family and getting ready for the holidays. I promise to post in December once I get everything squared away. It will definitely be a very kawaii Christmas. I plan on doing my Amy Brown Faerie tree as usual plus the traidtional tree, my Barbie tree and some super sweet Hello Kitty decorations as well. More on that in the next few days!

Amy Brown Fairy Divas

I have long had a deep obsession with the world of faerie. Since magick plays a huge part in my profession, especially magick having to do with faeries (and many other creatures of magick like dragons), I have been on the prowl for representations of my dear little friends. These faeries may not truly qualify as kawaii in the more colorful sense, but to me they are adorable and twee and that is a big part of kawaii. This is how I came to know and love Amy Brown’s Fairy Diva’s.

Amy Brown is a fantasy artist who began painting faeries in the 90’s and is considered one of the best faerie artists in the world (along with other artists like Jessica Galbreth and Nene Thomas). The 37 year old artist (who looks much younger) has her own empire and looks like she is right out of the faerie world herself (or at least perhaps from Twilight as she bears a striking resemblance to actress Kristen Stewart who plays Bella Swan) is a  mother of two litte faerie girls and lives in Washington state.  Check out her website.

My first Fairy Diva was this little lady:

I decided then to collect every single diva there was and make a Fearie Tree for Christmas. Here are some of the other lovely ladies I collected:

Finally here is my Faerie Christmas Tree that I do every year.

What is Closet Kawaii?

To begin with, I have a huge walk-in closet. It is about the size of a small bedroom and in fact, I once considered making it into a meditation room but then ended up using a spare room for it instead. I did this for two reasons – first the room was a better space and second I needed my closet for all of my…er…stuff.

The stuff in my closet varies but it is mostly a huge collection of ALL THINGS KAWAII.

I have Hello Kitty, many varied Sanrio characters, San-X, Pucca, Gashopon, Re-ment, Megahouse, Neopets, Webkinz, Harajuku Lovers, Tokidoki, the worlds largest collection of bento boxes (that I never actually use since I work from home and don’t ever take a lunch anywhere) and many others in boxes, on shelves, semi-organized in labeled photo boxes (the Re-ment and Megahouse collections – it is true once I was dedicated to actually organizing this huge collection but I stalled after the first twelve boxes. I only have 20 more to go!)( You will see my laziness as a recurring theme in this blog) and many still in their shopping bags.

This then is why I call my blog Closet Kawaii.

I am determined to go into my closet and actually GO THROUGH my kawaii collections. I decided that if I blogged it perhaps I could actually motivate myself to do it. It may be slow – it may be one bag or box or Hello Kitty bento box at a time but gosh darn it – I’m gonna do it!

While that may be the overarching goal to this blog I will also include wonderful kawaii things I find in my travels (well, not too far travels, mostly from right here surfing the web that is while lying on my bed and typing on my laptop), incredible kawaii photos that I will ask nicely to post here on my site (others I will take of my own collections), as well as great online kawaii shops and ebay sellers, wonderful kawaii information sites and other blogs as well as a host of neat-o things about yours truly (aren’t you lucky?).
